I have much to share with you. Sorry it has been so long since the last newsletter. Life has been filled with many twists and turns for many of us. We pray all of you are doing well.
Divine Junior School started the 2023 school year in January. Praise God, things are growing and changing at the Divine Junior School. What miracles Jesus is pouring out on us! We have 272 students enrolled at this time. Parents are pleased with the education their children are receiving and trust the staff to care well for their children. The new restrooms were completed just in time to accommodate the influx of new students. Currently vans are transporting the maximum number of students allowed. Families who can pay tuition have really helped the operation of the school. Some of the school expenses are for food, lighting, van maintenance and fuel, medication, school supplies, books, uniforms, staff salaries, security and building maintenance.
Our most pressing need has developed from 60 students being boarders and more are on a waiting list. Making more sleeping spaces is a TOP PRIORITY. We are developing plans for adding on to the dorm and creating more sleeping spaces. We will need more classrooms as well. Demand for a good christian school for all grades is high, but first we must address the need for dorm rooms. We want safe places for the kids to reside and eliminate overcrowding.
We are opening a building fund drive to address these needs. We have set the goal at $35,000.00. We and the staff need your prayers, encouragement, and support. Please share our facebook page, ROCK KIDZ UGANDA, INC with your church and other organizations so they can see pictures of the ministry and what is being done. We want God's will in all things.
We do need your help spreading the word about the ministry and how lives are being changed. We can send you brochures to share. We need more sponsors and any financial support people can provide. If you are aware of any corporate donors, please let us know and we can contact them. Kids clubs, Sunday School classes, the FFA, Key Clubs and other civic organizations may become supporters. People can buy a brick for $5.00. Please pray about it and see how God can use YOU! Please spread the word anywhere you can. God will bless your efforts.

Wish you all could have been with me in Masaka, Uganda. July is the most comfortable month to be in Uganda. Temperatures and humidity were all bearable. The trip was absolutely fantastic and God has been moving mightily. I don't even know where to begin relating all the news. It's gonna take a couple newsletters to cover it all.
First of all, Divine Junior Primary School is the best christian school in Masaka. We have a fantastic staff from the Headmaster to security guards to teachers to kitchen staff, van drivers and all the support staff. They are committed to the education and care of our children. The ever-present smiles on the kids' faces testify of their joy in being part of DJS. The children are receiving a fine education and are well loved. Uncle Fred Wangi oversees the day to day operations of the school compound and equipment. He works many long hours and the school is growing under his leadership and guidance. The student body has increased to 196 pupils when I came home. Children range from the baby class to Level 5.
With the growth, several needs have become evident. We need to expand the restroom facilities first of all. At this time, we have 2 stalls on each side to service students and staff. We are exploring ways to expand for the long term. More info will be forthcoming. The second need has been noted by governmental officials. Guidelines recommend installation of playground equipment. We visited several companies which make swings, slides and climbing bars. The cost will run around $1200.00. We currently have $450.00 available. Any ideas for fundraisers for this would be greatly appreciated. Share the need with your churches and friends please.
The financial status of the school compound is ever changing. We do have a good number of students who are able to pay tuition as well as boarding. Your sponsorship also helps cover the costs for many students. About 80% of our student body are transported from surrounding communities. The school is gaining a good name for itself in the area and is becoming a sought after school. Our two vans make three runs twice a day picking up and delivering students. Transportation is probably the biggest expense right now due to the high price of gas and maintenance of vans from the bad road conditions. Many of our teachers came from other schools and had to take a pay cut to work at Divine. This speaks well of their commitment and love for our school. After learning much from the operation of the school since the first of 2022, we have found it necessary to make a change in policy for the students who are sponsored by donors. All but the destitute and children who have no family, the existing family is being asked to pay a small amount towards their child's education. It has been discovered that in doing this, the families are taking a more active role in school and are demonstrating to their kids how important an education is. The policy seems to be working well. Of course, any special hardship is considered in paying the fees. A parent-teacher organization has been established to develop cooperation between school and home.
Every Friday has chapel time for students and staff. It is a delightful, fun-filled time. The kids start with praise and worship, then there is a message for and by the children. The kids actively participate and learn lots. It was one of my favorite times while there. The staff has "after school" chapel time on Friday as well. They too, begin with praise, worship and prayer followed by a message of encouragement. We have such a talented staff.
I was so thrilled as a teacher myself, to be in Masaka while schools were in session. I visited the schools of the older students to see how each is faring. I was able to participate, see and hear lessons for all ages. I pray all of you will be able to do the same. It is a wonderful experience. Hope you all get a chance to hear the kids sing their school song.
Tears came to my eyes many times during this trip. We are so blessed to be a part of God's work. This was a trip of affirmation for me believing the Holy Spirit is very much involved. Thank you sponsors for bringing hope to these children's lives.
A real highlight of the trip, was to celebrate the college graduation of one of our sponsored students. What a joy to witness. Lawrence obtained a degree in videography. He is already providing pictures for newspapers, magazines and area evangelists. He is a hard-working Christian young man who still finds time to help out at the school as well. God's blessings to you Lawrence!! We also have several young ladies and men attending college at this time. Let's keep them all in our prayers
I have so much more to share in future newsletters, Report cards came out today for the students at Divine Junior School and I will be sending those out to you. Students are also writing letters for their sponsors. Students will now be on break from school until September. Rest assured, I checked on all of your kids and was well pleased overall with what is happening for each one. Please continue to pray.

Divine Junior School has completed its first term. I have received some report cards, but more are to come soon. Students will resume classes in early May. We are pleased with all the work the staff has done to make this term a success. The kids have been excited to return to school on a regular schedule. The parent/caregiver conferences held by the teachers were very well attended. We have wonderful teachers committed to helping all kids to reach their learning potentials. The school now has 179 students enrolled. We currently have 61 students sponsored by 35 donors! Praise God!

July 10 - July 24 are the dates for our mission trip to Masaka. School will be in session, so there will be much for us to do. We need people to join me. You need a shot for yellow fever, a current passport and a Ugandan visa. You will need a negative Covid PCR test, 72 hours prior to boarding plane going and returning. Plane fares have increased due to world conditions. Including taxes and fees, they cost around $1700.00. Your stay there will be $1000.00 in a modest motel and includes your food. Cost of passport, a little over $100.00, visa $50.00, yellow fever shot is $300.00. We will have a great time sharing with our Ugandan hosts. There will be street ministry opportunities, meeting kids and families, bible study and prayer meetings, interacting with the elderly and other church ministries. We will hold Zoom meetings to teach those going along about the culture and customs, as well as build relationships with one another and Christ. We really hope you will consider being a part of this mission trip. We have applications for anyone wanting to go and will need to have them completed ASAP. Pray about it.

]]>The holidays are coming quickly. We hope this finds you well and ready to enjoy this season, celebrating Thanksgiving and Christ's birth.
Unfortunate news! Please pray for the unrest in Uganda. Got word this morning that there have been several bombings in and around the Kampala area over the last few weeks. Many have been injured and several killed. As far as we know all of our people are safe at this time. We do have several students at universities in Kampala. Please for a hedge of protection to be around them.
We do thank you all for your faithful support in 2021. We have been able to help many families this year and we praise God for blessing the ministries. Times have been tough in the US and Uganda. Loved ones were lost to Covid. Food and other supplies have been in short supply. Lockdowns were tough for all, but especially the children. Some have not attended school in a year and a half. Yet God has cared and looked after all of us, supplying many blessings. Donations did not drop off, in fact we have new donors and many have sent extra monies due to the needs.
At this time, schools will open in January and Divine is gearing up for that. Please pray that we will not suffer any more closures, so that the kids may continue their education and plans for the future. Divine was provided sufficient monies to purchase 2 used vans to transport kids for school. We are so thankful to Connecting Life and Common Ground Community Church for supporting this project. We pray the vans will get lots of use in 2022. The vans are better suited to handle the rough terrain around Masaka. Please pray for safety for all and that the vans will successfully meet the needs.

We are planning a trip to Uganda in January 2022 and then again in July. I really need someone to travel with me in January since we cannot get David's dialysis supplies into Uganda at this time. Please pray about this situation. Anyone interested in escaping the cold for a couple weeks?
The trip in July is open for those interested in serving in any way. There are some teachers interested in going to do mentoring and team teaching.since school will be open. Please join us, there are always plenty of kids and families to help and encourage.

God has greatly blessed RKU and Divine Ministries during this trying time of Covid 19. Masaka continues on limited restrictions. The rate of illness is decreasing. We praise God for protecting our families in Masaka and helping them recover from the virus.
It appears school will resume in the next couple of weeks. The school staff is being required by the government to be vaccinated. Please cover the staff and students in your prayers as school resumes.
I want to thank Ken Jaschob for posting his pictures of 2 girls he recently sponsored. This post received many views and comments resulting in other people sponsoring some of our children. It was a simple post, indicating that he had added 2 more girls to his "sponsored family". Thank you Ken for spreading the word about Rock Kidz and its children. We still have 18 kids needing sponsors.

I want to share a grave prayer request first of all. Uganda has resumed lockdown procedures. Covid is on the rise there and Masaka is experiencing many cases and deaths. Our families there need our prayers, please. The children at Divine Junior School have been quite sick for the last couple weeks. Absences from school are many. Not sure if their sickness is Covid related or not. School is now closed for 6 weeks all over the country.
Now, on to praises! Our fundraiser was a splendid success. We reached the goal of $10,000 to buy a good used van. Thank you to all who contributed. God has truly blessed the ministry. We will soon have safe and reliable transportation for children and staff.
We are also rejoicing over gaining some new sponsors. Welcome to Sally and Fred Carrier from Common Ground Church and Laura and Mickey Heestand from Connecting Life Church. All live in Salem, Ohio. Some of our current sponsors expanded to sponsor some children attending DJS. Thank you for caring so much for our children. We do still have some children at DJS who need sponsors. Hello Donors!!
We are rejoicing because Divine Junior School is open and children are attending!!
I am back home and marveling at what the Lord has done in Masaka, Uganda. We just helped construct and open the only Christian school in the Nenyendo area. Praise God! Jesus has brought about so many wonderful events. The school is getting its finishing touches and it is beautiful. Much more impressive in person than the pictures show. It is filled with excited children, ready to learn.
Four teachers have started instruction under Head Master, George Olingo. George has 26 years of experience and is a true believer, leading our school. He has done a great job getting everything organized for the start of school, interviewing teachers and applying for all the government licenses. We have all experienced teachers for classes, nursery through level 4. We praise Jesus for bringing His people to us, to staff the school.
The Hope House Dormitory will house a teacher and students who do not live locally. Even so, transportation is very important to the day to day operation of Divine Junior School. Many kids still have to be transported to other schools, medical care, sporting events and such. The current van has seen many miles, runs sporadically and is in constant need of repairs. This is an urgent request for prayers, funds and to share Rock Kidz Uganda with others. The average cost of a used minibus van is over $10,000 USD in Uganda.
Many people have worked very hard to construct the school. Very little "modern" equipment was used in construction. The workers were a marvel. I got to watch the desks being assembled. They are beautiful and well crafted. The Ugandan site inspector suggested an additional latrine be constructed and a larger outside play area be cleared. Otherwise he was very impressed with school building.
You all can be very proud of the school you have helped construct. The community contributed financial support and much sweat equity to the school project as well. Many from the community came to the Dedication Service. There was much excitement and pride over the addition of a school to Nenyendo. It is the goal of Divine Ministries that the school be self-sustaining in the next couple years. Thank you to all who have made this dream come true.
Derrick Ssekitende, our accountant (who was one of our sponsored kids), has done an excellent job supplying us with monthly expenditure reports. He keeps very accurate records of how your donations are being put to use. Thank you, Derrick, for your hard work.
I was able to visit many families and students while there, although many were already in school and I could not meet with them personally. As always, parents and friends expressed their thanks for the donor support of their children. I was able to speak to many of the kids and they shared about their lives, hopes and dreams. We have a group of fine, intelligent young people growing in the Lord Jesus. They have many daily challenges and need our prayers. They are hard working kids who are so very grateful for the opportunities provided to them. They thank you all.
The Amazing Life Worship Center is growing. Pius is pastor and has many new converts. The worship center will be moving to a larger facility which can accommodate the growing congregation in a couple weeks, blessed be the Lord who has miraculously provided again. We praise Him for His blessings to this church.
We are still planning the mission trip for July 18th lasting 10 days. Hoping some of the COVID testing requirements will be eased by then. If you are interested in going, please let me know ASAP.
Thank you donors for your faithful support. We are saddened by the death of Pam Kenney, one of our long time donors. She loved her Ugandan granddaughter and was so happy to be involved in raising her in this Christ centered environment.

I know you all have a special spot in your heart for God's children and teenagers. You are following Jesus' Great Commission by being the hands and feet of the Lord. Matt 28:19 says: Therefore go and make disciples of ALL nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.. Your gifts are sharing God's love with them. Here is how your love is being shared. Primarily your monies place the kids in a school which provides a good education, so that eventually they can give back to their community. The kids receive school supplies, many are transported to local schools and some attend boarding schools, where they have housing, food and education. Often clothing, shoes and limited medical care is purchased as well.
Your dollars also maintain the Divine Soccer Ministry and staff through which children not only learn soccer skills, but are taught the Word of God. The ministry gets the kids off the streets and guides them to good fellowship with peers. The children learn responsibility, integrity and leadership skills. Your dollars impact and change lives, bringing hope to those who had no hope. The kids have goals now to make a difference in life in Masaka, Uganda. School and other activities direct them to safety and less of a chance of being caught up in sex trafficking, drugs and alcohol. The families are so thrilled and grateful for their kids to be a part of the Divine Ministries Program. Whether your gift is $30.00/month, $45.00/month or funding for special projects like the Hope House and Divine Junior School, your gift changes a life of poverty to a life of HOPE.
Our children are learning to care for one another and love doing it. You are supporting intelligent, eager youth who willingly give back their respect and love. When we visit, the kids keep saying thank you for this better life. Tears came to my eyes when one of "our" kids signed their school book Pauline Bodendorfer. They truly consider themselves part of our family.

Praise God for His promises to all of us. Donors, God blessed us greatly in 2020 despite all the obstacles that were present. We were able to double our gifts to Divine Soccer Ministry and its families. What a miracle!! All of you were able to accomplish so much through the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you everyone! We were greatly blessed. A pandemic did not stop the work of God. This was Rock Kidz Uganda's second year of existence. It has all been to honor and glorify God. You have supported us financially, but your prayers have been our greatest blessing.
Divine Junior School is nearing completion. Two additional rooms are being added as well as doors and windows. It is looking beautiful. Praise God for how he has blessed the desires of our hearts. Children will be able to attend a christian school close to home. When we first discussed building a school, we had concerns, but Jesus kept encouraging us to follow His leading. The government has still not given schools an official starting date, but we are still planning for February. We are all so excited. Staff has been interviewed and furnishings are being sought.
We keep planning for the future and how more children and families can be served. Soccer teams are in training and making progress. As with any busy ministry, needs present themselves.
Our minivan is on its last "legs" wheels. Repairs are costing more than the van is worth. We are seeking a good used full-sized van. Four wheel drive is a must for the rutted dirt roads. The van will serve the ministry in many ways, transporting soccer teams, obtaining and delivering supplies to children and families, transporting kids to and from school, taking kids for medical. Please keep this need in prayer.
Please let me know if you are considering coming with us as part of our July Mission Trip. It promises to be a great experience. We can share ideas and letters to raise money for the trip for you. ]]>A most unusual Christmas this year, but Jesus is on His Throne and we are most thankful for all His blessings. We pray you are all well. We know too many are experiencing Covid, but Psalm 91 provides a perfect prayer for all.
Divine Junior School has cement floors, plastered walls and blackboards now. Thanks staff for your work at the school and thank you donors for your generous and faithful support. We praise God for every one of you. Any size gift is a big blessing. Currently we have just under $700.00 in the building fund to use towards doors and windows. We are praying God leads us to more funds to get us the additional $5000.00 still needed. PLEASE help us discover more sources of funding to complete the building. School will restart in February. Registration for our school is going on this month. God moved us to build and He will lead us to completion.
A number of our students who are attending school now, because they are on a level 7 in primary or secondary classes will be completing requirements either to move ahead or graduate at the close of this term. Praise God! we are so glad they were allowed to go to school this fall.
Dates for the summer mission trip are set up for departure on July 18,2021 through July 30, landing in the US on July 31. I am making flight arrangements through an organization that specializes in serving mission trips. Prices are usually a bit lower than through agencies, yet still fly the main lines. Please let me know if you are interested in participating. We will leave from Pittsburg, make connections in Washington DC and then on to Belgium and then Entebbe, Uganda. Total travel time with layovers is approximately 27 hours. The flights cost around $1400.00. The stay in Uganda will be a little over $1000.00 which includes motel, meals and some excursions. You are on your own for souvenirs. We will have pre-travel Zoom meetings to inform you of activities, what you need to take, cultural issues and customs. You will need a current passport, Ugandan visa and a shot for Yellow Fever and recent Covid negative test results. We will spend time with the kids and their families, time at the soccer field, time with staff. We will be involved with mentoring newly saved christians, street and church ministry, small group studies, as well as work at the school and in the gardens. Most importantly, we will be the hands and feet of Jesus on the ground through the love of Jesus.

Our next step is to make and install 20 windows and 6 doors. The cost of this phase is estimated to be a little under $6000.00. It is our hope to open the school to preschoolers and 5 year old's in February. We need to move forward with this fundraiser. I am asking you to consider contacting friends and relatives over Thanksgiving to seek donations. Perhaps you would consider having a fundraiser of your own to raise monies. If you know of entrepreneurs who are seeking a tax write off for 2020, now is a good time to contact them. Often there are businesses who are seeking a charity to donate to before the end of the year. If you want some updated RKU brochures to share; message or text me and I will send some to you.
Sponsoring a child is a good family project to initiate at Christmas. It helps your children reach out to others in need, who have so much less than us. Currently we have 16 children who need sponsors. Primary age children cost $30.00/ month, secondary age students are $45.00/month, college age students are $50.00/month. Please share this information. We have a church's children's group that sponsors a child. Maybe this is something your church can do. Perhaps you know of an organization seeking a project to make a difference in the world.

Continuing with good news, Pius Sserunjogi's street ministry, through God's leading, is bringing many new converts to their church. Sunday services are growing rapidly. Many of these new converts need counseling and guidance to grow in God's Word. Some are in need of job training. It is our plan to set up a mission trip for July 2021 to aid in the mentoring of these converts and expand the street ministry. God is pouring out His Holy Spirit on this ministry of saving souls through the blood of Jesus Christ. We invite you and your friends to be a part of following the commands of Jesus. College age and older are welcome to participate. If you are interested, contact us for information. Applications for participating will be available on our website soon.
